  • Let there be whales!  Our excursion out of Juneau took us to some very active whale locations.  Seeing (and hearing) them breathe was...well...breathtaking!

  • The water was so clear, you could see their flippers!

  • Here, you can see the top of the whale's mouth.  Each bump is actually a small hair follicle (as they ARE mammals...).

  • Here was another boat full of excited whale watchers.  I was surprised how close the whales came to us.  They must be used to all of the gawkers...
  • Several times, we were witness to bubble-net feeding events, where the whales would work together to trap fish in a sea of bubbles, forcing them to the top, where they could easily be devoured!

  • More bubble-net feeding!  This was awesome to witness--how the group of whales worked cooperatively to force the smaller fish to the surface.
