Olivia and Chimka enjoying the evening (and the wallpaper).

• Afterwards, Nyamdorj went to help his grandson bring his horse back in. It was cute to see how proud the grandson was throughout the whole event. Can you imagine? What a total thrill!

• This little guy was adorable, and his del was such a vibrant color! He had fun cheering all of the other kids over the finish line.
• I love this photo because of his expression. He's like, "Who brought the white woman?"
• This is what roads look like on the Mongolian steppe. They're more "route suggestions" than actual roads. But they eventually get you to where you want to go.
• Later in the afternoon, after the horse racing, Tunga took me to visit a Kazakh family about 30 minutes from where her aunt lives. When we arrived, the wind was blowing so fiercely that everyone was huddled inside the ger.

• Inside, I was warmly welcomed by the Kazakh family. Kazakhs are Turkish ethnic group who have been in Mongolia for centuries. They didn't have much in the way of material possessions, but they were generous in offering me cheese curds, bread, and milk tea https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kazakhs
• The family we were visiting shared these two gers. Notice the solar panel and satellite dish.

• Here's grandpa #2. He was a jokester, constantly laughing with grandpa #1. I'm sure they were making fun of the white girl with the camera. Or maybe not at all. I have a feeling that these two are always laughing, stirring up trouble. I told them I had my eye on them...
• The textiles in their ger were typical of Kazakh design. Bright colors and bold patterns. Gorgeous.
• Our feast from above. Cheese curds (not chicken nuggets), bread and milk tea.
• Time for our goodbyes.
• They were all so kind.
• The owner of our hostel surprised us all with a fancy send-off! We were the very first group to stay at her hostel, and was so grateful for our business. Cheers!
https://www.facebook.com/modernmongol

• Our happy group! The artwork on the wall behind us is actually done by a famous Mongolian artist. It depicts a naked family, hanging out in various naked poses. Noting disgusting, just...interesting.
• We were so impressed with the hostel owner that we decided to interview her for WWU's entrepreneurship class! She was such a good sport about it, and gave some good advice about women in the new economy in Mongolia.
