  • Even though horses (and other animals) are not considered pets in Mongolia, I couldn't help but see this as a tender moment between the grandson and his horse.

  • This Mongolian knot design is seen everywhere. Even steel doors.
  • Nyamdorj and he grandson rode out to the arena to check on the start time for the practice race. I'm not sure it's much quicker by motorcycle, but it sure is more modern.
  • Grandfather and grandson on their motorcycle.
  • The jockeys, who ranged in age from 4 (yeah, 4) to 12, rode in a tight pack to the starting line. Even walking to the starting line was fast!
  • The grandson is the only one with a helmet. I wonder why that is?

  • And they're off! I was following along in a car, and it was hard to capture the speed with which these kids were running! My camera is still full of dust from all of the hooves! What a thrill!

  • Here's the little four-year-old! I guess he has a helmet, too. You know, because he's FOUR!

  • Here comes the grandson, across the finish line! Look at his smile! He was so proud. :)
