  • The column was decorated with the accomplishments of the early explorers.
  • Is that a monument, or is Astoria just happy to see me?
  • From the top of the Astoria Column, you can see across the Columbia River into Washington. Note the Astoria Bridge. Very long.
  • I love maps.
  • Our next stop, Ecola State Park, just north of Cannon Beach, Oregon.
  • Cannon Beach is known for its iconic Haystack Rocks.
  • Again with the Haystack Rocks. Heavy.
  • Ecola State Park was literally CRAWLING with these caterpillars (much to Sarah's unbridled delight)!
  • Another insanely beautiful view from Ecola State Park (which always makes me think of E-coli, which is not what I want to be thinking about when I'm shooting landscapes).
  • Pelican Briefs.
  • I wish you could hear how LOUD these waves were, crashing against the rocks! It's amazing that there's any coast left at all...
  • Yeah, kid. It's a lot to take in. (Isn't this totally better than being in school??)
  • I really liked the mix of sand and smooth stones.

  • Who goes there?
  • Before the crashing waves...
  • After the crashing waves!
  • I love how when kids get to the beach, their first instinct is to run like the wind!
  • Indian Beach, inside of Ecola State Park, made us jump for joy!
  • Many cartwheels were turned.
