Thanks to Mark's travel tip, we were sure to stop at the Astoria Column, in Astoria, OR.

  • Our first stop: Cape Disappointment, WA, near the OR border.
  • The North Head Lighthouse--one of two lights at Cape Disappointment State Park in WA.
  • I love what my wide-agnle lens does to tall things...
  • This time, instead of pitching a tent, we rented yurts (in honor of my recent trip to Mongolia). And let me tell you, yurts are the way to go!
  • Not only do they have mattresses, but they also have electricity and heat! Not exactly camping, but what the hell?
  • The fog was rolling into our campground at dinner time.
  • The North Head Lighthouse the next morning.
  • Hi, Sarah!
  • Sarah and Grammy getting drowned out by the morning sun and fog.
  • Just for fun, and something different, I decided to bring a lamp along with me. I love the metaphor of light, and Sarah and I had great fun deciding where to put it.
  • How cool is it to roast three marshmallows at ONCE?
  • Sarah and Grammy at Cape Disappointment.
  • This tree was pretty darn old...
  • Small kids fit really well into big trees.
  • Dead Man's Cove (and it was easy to see why--lots of rocks and whirlpools).
  • Cape Disappointment Lighthouse.
  • These rocky coastlines sure are nice to look at, but I wouldn't want to try to navigate them in a boat. In a storm. At night.
  • Cape Disappointment Lighthouse.
  • Directly below the lighthouse.
  • Thanks to Mark's travel tip, we were sure to stop at the Astoria Column, in Astoria, OR.
